Inward Telegraphic Transfers

If you’re receiving regular or one-off foreign currency payments to a Heritage bank account, our Inward Telegraphic Transfer service may be the ideal solution. If you have an active Heritage account, simply complete the online form and provide the details to the sender to receive the money directly into your account. 


How do I receive an Inward Telegraphic Transfer to my account?

  1. Contact Heritage to ensure your account has adequate and up-to-date identification is recorded for you to receive an Inward Telegraphic Transfer.
  2. Follow this link to the Western Union website and complete our online form.
  3. Choose the country you are receiving funds from.
  4. Complete the relevant information in the online form.
    Please ensure that you double check that the BSB and account numbers are correct. Western Union and Heritage Bank do not cross check the account number with the account name submitted. Western Union and Heritage Bank are entitled to rely on the account number as your instructions to transfer money to that bank account. It may not be possible to recover funds from an unintended recipient if you provide the incorrect bank account details.
  5. Once you are satisfied the information you have entered is correct select submit. You will then be presented with the PDF deposit instructions. Please save it for your reference and email it to the sender/ follow payment instructions.
  6. Ask the sender to;
  • present these instructions to their bank when sending the payment to you.
  • deposit the amount into the dedicated Western Union account as stated in the instructions in local currency and not in AUD.
  • instruct bank teller to include the “Payment Notes” in the bank’s reference field as specified in the PDF deposit instructions.

What is an Inward Telegraphic Transfer?

An Inward Telegraphic Transfer (also known as an “Inward Wire”) is an electronic transfer of funds directly credited to your account from an overseas remitter.

In most cases a telegraphic transfer is the quickest way to receive funds from abroad. A telegraphic transfer will normally take four business days to be credited to your account, although this can never be guaranteed.

How does an Inward Telgraphic Transfer work?

The remitter should send the funds in their own currency, and Western Union Business Solutions will convert them into Australian Dollars before forwarding to Heritage for credit to your account. Funds can be received in a range of currencies.

Can I negotiate the exchange rate for the transfer?

No. The exchange rate is set by Western Union and cannot be negotiated.

When will the money be available in my account?

The time it takes to receive the money into your account differs depending on what country it is coming from. As a guide, the funds will generally be available in four working days, however this cannot be guaranteed.
