Out and about in the Brisbane CBD

Looking for some Christmas cheer we took a trip to Queen Street in Brisbane. While in town, we dropped in on the Heritage Bank Queen Street Branch and spoke to Timothy James, Customer Service Supervisor, to find out a little about what’s going on in that neck of the woods.

So, tell us about the Queen Street Branch.

We have such a wealth of knowledge in this branch – in fact we’ve got a combined total of 127 years experience in the banking world right here! We cater for all types of customers but our main clients are those doing their business banking or professionals who work in the city and need to do their personal banking. We are equipped to help people quickly as we know everybody’s lunch times are precious. This means we have more staff than other branches, including two full time loans officers. These guys are always available for customers and have a great amount of experience.

Originally having opened in the Queen Street Mall, we’ve since moved further up Queen Street and now live amongst the financial hub of the city. This branch was the first Heritage Bank branch to open in the city and we are welcoming a much anticipated refurbishment in the new year – so if you see tradies around the place measuring things you’ll know why.

What’s the vibe like around Brisbane for purchasing big items such as property and cars?

Over the Christmas period we find people are generally busy with their festive plans so it’s really once we start the new year that people are out and about looking at things like property and cars. So we will expect see a fair few of those people in the branch in the coming months as they get into researching their options for home loans and car loans.

In terms of property, the general vibe around Brisbane is that it’s a great time to buy property but not such a good time to sell. People who are taking out home loans are excited and positive, as we’ve heard there are some good deals going around in Brisbane’s property market at the moment.

We also have a lot of customers looking for investment properties or business properties in this branch so we deal fairly regularly with business loans.

What’s the Brisbane CBD looking like right now?

We are right in the heart of the city, so of course everything is alight with Christmas! The Myer Christmas windows are in full swing, there’s pantomimes being performed in the mall and to top it off we have carol singers right across the road from us every day, outside the post office.

It really is a great time of year to be in the city!

What are the Queen Street customers like?

We have a great backyard of customers. Our customers come from all over Brisbane and generally work in the city. They are fast paced and busy so we have to really know what our customers want and understand their needs so we can help them effectively and efficiently. Many are professionals who are carrying out personal or business banking and we have very solid foundations with them.

Many people who bank at this branch have been customers for years and our relationships have been built over a long period of time. It’s part of our branch ethos to keep building on and maintaining our fantastic relationships with our customers.

Our customers know what they want and have generally done a fair bit of research before they come to see us so it’s important we are up to date with the latest trends and products so we can help them in the best way possible.

How do you find living Brisbane?

I love living in Brisbane, I just love it! It’s pretty laid back and it’s evolving as a new world city. Brisbane is a city where there is constantly something happening – there’s always new infrastructure being built. After the floods, we’ve rejuvenated a lot of areas – a good example is Southbank, where there are now lots of new restaurants and places to sit along the river. We’ve seen big recovery since the floods and it feels as though Brisbanites and the Council have now found their feet.
