Telegraphic Transfer

A Telegraphic Transfer is an international money transfer that allows you to send money to an overseas bank account in over 130 currencies. Funds are deposited directly into the payee’s bank account to be accessed easily by the payee. You could use a Telegraphic Transfer to transfer money internationally to a family member or friend living overseas, buy overseas property from Australia or send wages or salaries to employees overseas.

How much does a Telegraphic Transfer cost?

Online

Telegraphic Transfers sent online in a Foreign Currency attract a fee of AUD $15. Intermediary banks may charge fees independently of Heritage Bank. 

In-person

Telegraphic Transfers sent in AUD to a country with a different currency will attract a fee of AUD $50. All payments sent in a Foreign Currency attract a fee of AUD $30. Intermediary banks may charge fees independently of Heritage Bank. 

What details do I need to provide to complete a Telegraphic Transfer?

To send money overseas using a Telegraphic Transfer, you will need to provide your residential address and the residential address for the receiver, as well as details of the account that the funds will be transferred to.

The details must be clearly communicated and 100% accurate. Any errors may increase the time taken for your payee to receive funds.

This includes:

  • Beneficiary Bank Full Name
  • Beneficiary Bank Full Address
  • Account Number
  • Beneficiary's Full Name
  • Beneficiary's Residential Address
  • Purpose (Reference)

You will also need to provide some additional information when sending a Telegraphic Transfer to the following countries:

 Europe International Bank Account number (IBAN) – the IBAN incorporates the bank, sort code and account number
 United Kingdom IBAN
 New Zealand Bank code
 Malaysia National ID number or Company number
 USA ABA or routing code

How do I transfer money internationally online? 

Heritage customers can now send money overseas online in Heritage Online.

You'll need to be registered to receive with SMS Security to use this service. A service fee will apply as outlined in our Fees and Limits Guide.

Heritage Online

  1. Login to Heritage Online
  2. Go to the Transfers menu then select Transfer Money Internationally
  3. Request a quote to transfer money internationally. You can select a saved payee here.
  4. If you're adding a new payee, you'll need to provide detailed payment information including reference, the details of your payee and their bank details. You'll also be asked to provide a One Time Password (OTP) when setting up a new payee for security.
  5. Review and confirm the payment details are correct.
  6. Review the verification information. Do not proceed if you suspect a scam.
  7. Click Confirm Transfer. You'll be shown a successful transfer message once the transfer is complete.

International payments are available on a select range of Heritage transaction accounts, including our Simply Access transaction account.

How long will it take to send a Telegraphic Transfer?

Major currencies may take 3-4 business days. Minor/exotic currencies may take up to 10 business days. Please note these are only indicative timeframes.

Drafts

Like a bank cheque made out in a foreign currency, Drafts are an easy and affordable way to make a payment overseas. Drafts can be sent via mail and are available in a wide range of currencies.

When should you send a draft?

  • If you don't know the recipient's bank account details
  • If you are sending a small amount of money
  • If you want to send a payment by mail with a letter, card or invoice
