Scam warning: Spoofing Scam - Soccer World Cup 2026

Scammers have registered over 4000 spoofed domains relating to the 2026 Soccer World Cup. The spoofed domains look very similar to official websites, but are fake and designed to catch you out.

The fake websites include:

• Fake ticket sales:
  These scam platforms claim to offer official Soccer World Cup tickets or travel packages. They will often require you to pay upfront, only to receive nothing in return or be redirected to phishing pages.
• Counterfeit merchandise:
  These sites claim to sell branded World Cup apparel and memorabilia at discounted prices. The products bought, if delivered at all, are often fake, incorrect, or of extremely poor quality.
• Fake betting and gambling sites:
  The scammers set up fake sports betting platforms that appear to be affiliated with the Soccer World Cup. These sites are designed to steal payment details from cardholders, or to facilitate unauthorised transactions.
• Streaming Scams:
  Scammers have created fake streaming websites appearing to offer live coverage of World Cup soccer matches. These fake sites often ask users to enter payment details or download malicious software to “access” the matches. Scammers steal the payment details provided by cardholders.

Stay alert with any websites you visit – carefully check the URLs, and ensure you only purchase Soccer World Cup tickets through official channels. 

If you are concerned about the security of your account, it’s very important you change ALL your Heritage Online passwords and call us immediately on 13 14 22. If you have been a victim of a scam, please report it to Heritage and your other financial institutions as soon as possible. Once you have done so, you can also report it to the ACCC via the report a scam page to help protect others from similar scams.
