Heritage Bank Stadium hosted the Gold Coast Homelessness Network’s annual Connect 2 Home event on 2 August, transforming into a one-stop venue to support those at risk or experiencing homelessness.

Over 1,000 attendees were welcomed to the Stadium to access a range of free services, information and living essentials.

Organised by the Gold Coast Homelessness Network and Gold Coast Youth Services, Connect 2 Home brings together local Council, State Government, businesses, community groups and volunteers to support vulnerable members of the community.

This marks the ninth Connect 2 Home event held at the venue, and the first following the rename to Heritage Bank Stadium - home to the Gold Coast SUNS AFL and AFLW teams.

In the lead-up to the event, Heritage’s Gold Coast branches acted as collection points for donated goods, with staff then joining other volunteers to pack goods into giveaway bags at the sorting day. On the day, Heritage team members hosted fun activities for the kids while helping with any budgeting queries.

Michael Töns, Heritage and People’s Choice Executive Manager, Sustainability & Community Impact, said Heritage and People’s Choice was delighted to be involved with Connect 2 Home.

“It can be extremely isolating for people at risk or experiencing homelessness to be forced to choose between essentials like food or other basic needs,” Mr Töns said.

“Connect 2 Home makes a tangible difference in the lives of people who may be struggling with the rising costs of living or the current housing crisis. Access to secure and affordable housing has a significant impact on both individuals and communities as a whole.

“We’re extremely proud to give back and support this important event at Heritage Bank Stadium,” Mr Töns said.

“The Stadium is a community asset that brings people together. Through sport, music, culture, or events and initiatives, like Connect 2 Home, it continues to drive community engagement and create a positive impact.”
