Three aspiring business leaders from regional Queensland are one step closer to their goals thanks to the 2025 Heritage Bank Peter Cleary Memorial Scholarship.

Now in its fifth year, the scholarship honours the legacy of former Heritage Bank executive Peter Cleary and supports second-year UniSQ business or accounting students from rural or remote Queensland with scholarships of up to $4,000 each.

This year’s recipients are:

  • Caleb Marriott – Bachelor of Business (Emergent Leadership and Human Resources)
  • Zaryn Miller – Bachelor of Business (Marketing)
  • Nathan Proberts – Bachelor of Accounting

For these students, the support means more time to focus on studies, career goals and supporting their communities.

Caleb Marriott said the scholarship offers far more than financial support.

“I’m incredibly grateful to be chosen,” he said. “This scholarship will be a massive helping hand and financial aid, relieving me of the constant worry about making ends meet and allowing me to focus more on my studies.”

People First Bank Chief Customer Officer Maria-Ann Camilleri said the bank was proud to continue its partnership with UniSQ.

“This scholarship honours Peter’s legacy and commitment to the region by supporting students to build bright futures for themselves and their communities,” Ms Camilleri said.

“It’s a great example of how industry and education can work together to create real opportunities.”

UniSQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Karen Nelson said the scholarships reflected the life-changing power of educational support.

“Behind every scholarship is a student whose life has been changed by the generosity of others," Professor Nelson said.

“These events celebrate the belief we place in the dreams and potential of our students. We look forward to seeing the impact they’ll make in the world.”
