It's easy to open an account with Heritage. Browse our range of transaction accounts, choose the one that's right for you, then visit your nearest branch or call 13 14 22 to apply.
You have decided to switch - what next?
Once you’ve opened an account with Heritage, you'll want to start using it right away. So you'll need to update your automatic payments, including:
- direct debits - money going out of your account (payments for electricity, water, phone, insurance, loans etc.)
- direct credits - money coming into your account (your pay, government benefits, tax refunds etc.)
Four steps for switching accounts:
- Open your new Heritage transaction account. Leave your old transaction account open with some money in to cover any automatic payments that need to be made during the changeover period.
- Ask your old financial institution for a list of all your regular direct debits and credits from the last 13 months. If your old financial institution doesn’t offer this service, you can find this information by looking at your account statements.
- Transfer all your regular direct debits and credits to your new Heritage account. You may like to bring the list into Heritage and the friendly staff will help you re-establish those payments on your new account.
- After you are sure all your automatic payments have been updated to your new Heritage account, you can safely close your old account.
