Heritage helps Crows Nest wood chopper achieve lifetime goal

Heritage Bank has helped Crows Nest woodchopper Jodie Beutel achieve her dream of representing Australia in the art of Cross Cut Sawing.

Thanks to a $2200 Community Grant from Heritage and PCCN (Progressive Community Crows Nest), Ms Beutel will join the Australian Women’s team at both the 2014 Sydney Royal Easter Show and the Professional Lumberjack Championships to be held in the United States in June.

“I currently work at Crow's Nest Children's Centre which receives no government assistance and is heavily reliant on parental payments and community grants,” Ms Beutel explained.

“The Children's Centre has been lucky enough to receive community grants from Heritage in the past so I spoke to Heritage Crows Nest Branch Manager Leanne about the possibility of applying for my own individual grant.

“Now, thanks to Heritage, this grant has allowed me to achieve a lifetime goal to represent not only Australia but the Crows Nest community.

“Cross Cut Sawing has a long history in Crows Nest and it’s great to be able to show off one of the skills that our region is known for on the world stage.”

Heritage Bank’s Crows Nest and Highfields branches operate under the community branch model as a joint-venture between Heritage Bank and the local community, represented by a company called PCCN (Progressive Community Crows Nest). Under the Heritage model, the community company’s share of profits is given back as grants to community organisations, charities and worthy causes.

Heritage Crows Nest Branch Sales and Service Manager Leanne Murphy said it was fantastic to see Jodie excel and grow in sport she had only taken up competitively in 2009.

“The community is 100% behind Jodie,” Ms Murphy said.

“She’s done extremely well in a short time-frame and has able to balance her commitments as a mum while working and competing.

“We’re a close-knit community and have built really strong relationships with our customers and as a community branch it’s so rewarding to be able to give to back to people like Jodie and much-needed local organisations like the Crow's Nest Children's Centre.

“The beauty of it is that the more people bank with us, the more we are able to give back through grants and sponsorship. It’s all about working together to achieve great things for our community.”
