Heritage Bank Volunteer of the Year award offers $11,000 in prizes for local charities and community groups

Heritage Bank has today announced the launch of a major funding initiative and competition for volunteers serving with Queensland community groups and charities.

The Heritage Bank Volunteer of the Year award is a new initiative designed to highlight the work of volunteers from around the state who have given time and energy by donating their time to charities, community groups and not-for-profit organisations.

Nominations are now open and the winner will be determined by public vote, with the most popular volunteer receiving $1,000 for themselves and $10,000 for the organisation they volunteered with.

Heritage Bank CEO, Mr John Minz, said the award was a way to say thank you for all the hard work and effort Queensland’s volunteers contribute.

“Volunteers are an integral part of our community and they deliver selfless time and energy to help improve our lives,” Mr Minz said.

“We’re committed to supporting the communities where our customers live and work and recognising the efforts of those who go out of their way to help others without expecting anything in return is just one way we can say thank you.

“Volunteers work to benefit us in areas such as community health care, education, the arts, environment conservation, social justice, sports and emergency services.

“Nominating and voting is a fantastic way to show your appreciation of their work, and to give their organisation the chance at winning $10,000 to spend on continuing the good work they do,” he said.

“Both nominating and voting is easy.

“People can either pick up a nomination brochure from their local branch and fill it out on the spot or complete the online nomination process at www.facebook.com/heritage – either way we will need to know in 100 words or less why you are nominating this person.

“I am sure this initiative will find itself close to many people’s hearts and I look forward to browsing through the list of nominees and their stories,” he said.

Nominations are open until close of business Friday 15 February Queensland time. Voting is open until close of business Thursday 28 February Queensland time, with the winner and their organisation being announced on Friday 1 March.
