Heritage honoured with Industry Community award

Australia’s largest building society, Heritage has been announced as the joint winner of the Community category in the 2009 Abacus Industry Awards.

Judged by Abacus - Australian Mutuals, the Industry body for mutual financial institutions, Heritage was awarded for its overall approach to building community.

Accepting the award, Heritage CEO John Minz said he was proud of the Society’s achievement and acknowledged the industry’s recognition of Heritage’s commitment to building the communities in which we operate.

“As a community-based mutual organisation where community engagement is not an accessory to our core business, but rather is embedded in our People first culture, it is particularly pleasing that Heritage has jointly won the award alongside Traditional Credit Union. This has special merit given the calibre of the 14 entrants,” Mr Minz said.

“As a community-focussed, mutual financial institution, Heritage has ensured that community is offered through more than a sponsorship program.

“Heritage’s eight community branches have returned more than $3.4 million to local communities since 1998 while our community Alliance program and communitys@ver Account provide community groups and not-for-profit organisations additional sources of income through member and community support.

“Importantly our staff are encouraged to involve themselves in their local community with access to volunteer leave, emergency services leave and defence services leave.

“This award is another significant achievement that the Society can celebrate and it is a great incentive to provide even better service to our communities as we continue to live our mutual philosophy of putting People first.”

As Australia’s largest mutual building society, Heritage continues to put People first by providing members a better deal in the form of better service, lower fees, higher deposit rates and lower lending rates as compared to the major banks.
