Families in need across the Darling Downs and Southern Queensland will have 15,000 extra reasons to smile this Christmas thanks to the 2019 Loads of Love Appeal.

The Loads of Love Appeal aims to make Christmas just that little bit better for families doing it tough by asking people from the region to donate a bag filled donations of non-perishable food items and personal items like canned food, pasta, cereal, meal bases and toiletries.

Since beginning nine years ago the Loads of Love Appeal has become a trusted way for thousands of Queenslanders to channel their generosity to those that need it most during the Christmas season.

Through the support of sponsors and the generosity of the public the appeal has collected and distributed more than 73,000 kilograms (approximately $360,000) of food and thousands of dollars of grocery cards to more than 3,000 households across Southern Queensland.

With a goal of collecting 15,000 kilograms of non-perishable food, the appeal aims to make Christmas that little bit better for families who are experiencing tough times.

Lifeline Darling Downs CEO, Derek Tuffield said that the charity will receive more than 700 calls for support from people in the South West between November and December this year.

“Last year more than 25% of those supported had never contacted Lifeline before. Drought, fire and increased financial pressures are bringing more and more people to call for help”, Mr Tuffield said.

People wishing to donate to the appeal can simply pick up a bag at Robertson Scannell, participating Heritage branches or Harvey Norman stores in Toowoomba, Dalby, Warwick and Kingaroy.  Once filled, donated items and bags can be dropped off at more than 40 collection points collection point.

Appeal organiser, Matt Gregg said, “Loads of Love is simple, easy and accessible to everyone.
All donations of non-perishable food will be distributed in key areas of need across South West Queensland and the South Burnett. What you give stays local and every item will go to where it is needed the most.”

Heritage Bank CEO Peter Lock said that the Loads of Love Appeal was a great way for the whole community to play a part in making a difference during Christmas.

“I'm really proud that our Bank has such a strong community focus, it’s a big part what makes Heritage different. We are passionate about giving back to the community and are delighted to continue our support of Loads of Love Appeal for another year”, Mr Lock said.

The 2019 Loads of Love Appeal will run from 14 November – 20 December 2019. For more information please visit the official Loads of Love website.
